
I was born in Maceio in Brazil but came to England with my Scottish father and two brothers at the age of 7 when my parents separated.
My first school was Lena Gardens in Shepherd’s Bush, London before moving out of London to Gerrards Cross, where I attended St Bernard’s Secondary School in High Wycombe, Buckinghamshire. After school I went to Aylesbury College and studied City & Guilds General Catering for two years. Early in my career Albert Roux took me under his wing at Chez Roux, the first UK restaurant to feature sous vide techniques. After six years under Roux, I moved into the catering industry, developing high-end dishes for the luxury airline industry.

I have lived on Skye for 20 years. I was educated in a boarding school in the south of England then studied Rural Land Management at Agricultural college and became a Chartered Surveyor and Land Agent.
With a growing interest in developing countries and different cultures I moved to Africa, working in different countries – Swaziland, Burundi and Mozambique amongst others. My work gradually evolved from natural resource management into economic and small business development.
