Uig, Ferry Port for the Western Isles

As you travel down the west coast of Trotternish from Duntulm the Western Isles can be seen across the Minch. Just after you pass the junction with the minor road from Staffin, Uig Bay appears and the road descends to the village via a very tight hairpin bend.

Uig Bay and the ferry (7KB)

Looking back at Ru Idrigill (Idrigill Point) and the Bay from the Portree road.

A Caledonian MacBrayne ferry is about to leave from the pier.

Our route now leads down the coast of Loch Snizort, once again on a modern dual track, and back towards Portree. However, unless you want to take a short-cut via Portree, the tour turns off this road at Borve, around 4 miles before Portree, and continues past Waternish to Dunvegan.
