Just before the northern tip of Skye is Staffin with its sweeping Bay. The Trotternish Ridge returns closer to the road at this point, showing off the rock scenery of the Quiraing.
A short cut on the tour is possible at this point, by taking the minor road across the Island to Uig, passing through the Quiraing itself.
Further on, the Western Isle come into view across the Minch.
The Bay, Staffin Island and just visible in the distance the mountains of Mainland Scotland.
Beyond Staffin the road rounds the northern tip of the Skye, passing through the tiny villages of Flodigarry and Kilmaluag.
This picture was taken just by the gallery in Kilmaluag and shows Sgur Mòr (Big Peak), the end of the Trotternish ridge, with Sròn Vourlinn to the left. Sròn is Gaelic for nose.
Duntulm is another ruined castle that passed through the control of both the Macleods and the Macdonalds several times, though it is as the long time home of Macdonalds that it is best known.
It was finally abandoned as a residence in the 18th century.
From the castle, the road travels south towards Uig.
