Glen Sligachan
With its hotel and campsite, Sligachan has long been a centre for exploration (and admiration) of Skye's main mountain ranges - the Cuillin Hills and the Red Hills.
Glamaig
The modern main road crosses the River Sligachan in a single span, but the older 3 span stone bridge has been left in place alongside.
Glamaig (775m, 2542ft) is the cone shaped hill rising the other side of the bridge. Every year there is a race from by the hotel to the top of Glamaig and back - the record stands at just under 50 minutes!
Marsco
Perhaps the most characterful of the Red Hills.
Sgurr nan Gillean and northern peaks of the Cuillin
The jagged Cuillin ridge looms over the glen, inviting the more experienced walker or climber to sample its heights.
Just over the bridge you can turn left to Dunvegan, but our route continues along the A87, up Glen Varragill and on to Portree.
