Glen Drynoch

Before the Clearances of the early 1820's the Glen was home to around 1500 people. Little remains to show their presence other than regular undulations on the glen sides - signs of run-rig agriculture.

As you drive up the Glen, the Cuillin grows to your right and the Red Hills appear.

The Cuillin Hills of Skye

 (9KB)

The northern slopes of the Cuillin, from Sgurr nan Gillean to Bruach na Frithe reflected in Loch nan Eilean (Loch of the Islands) at the head of Glen Drynoch.

Glamaig

 (12KB)

Glamaig, best known of the Red Hills, also seen from Loch nan Eilean.

Shortly after the head of Glen Drynoch the road reaches Sligachan again, from where the tour reverses our earlier route and heads for Broadford. After Broadford the turning for Armadale is passed, favouring instead the road to Kyleakin.
