Skye Detours off the main road
This section of our Isle of Skye Tour takes in detours off the main circuit to some really wonderful places accessible by car along our single track side roads.
This is the road from Broadford to Elgol, providing superb views of Blaven and finishing at Elgol Jetty with its stunning vista of the Cuillin across Loch Scavaig.

As well as completing our Elgol detour, we plan to add a range of other detours including:
- Minginish - Carbost, the Talisker Distillery and Portnalong.
- Glen Brittle - base for many a Cuillin climb, but well worth a visit by the motorist.
- The Moll Road - taking the older quieter route between Luib and Sconser.
- Kylerhea - a trip to the traditional ferry location, where a small car ferry still runs.
- Glendale - a quiet corner of Skye.
- Waternish - from the Fairy Bridge to Trumpan Church.
- The Trotternish Ridge - the minor road from Staffin to Uig cuts through these fascinating rock formations near the Quiraing.
- Raasay - the island off our island.
- The Tarskavaig & Ord loop - leave the main road up Sleat behind and visit the west side for quite a different atmosphere.
- Aird - a trip towards the very base of Skye.
